Folly's Vision Cards

A man in a red leather trenchcoat sits at the side of a paved road. A black Oldsmobile is pulled up alongside him, and a bespectacled woman with bobbed dark hair is leaning across from behind the wheel to open the passenger door for him.

Dear Mum. Rumor has it she picked up quite a few good-looking party boys during her glory days of fame and fortune.

The doctor moves in slow motion, limned by light as the sounds in the background fade and sound hollow. His breath catches in his throat as the woman turns, placing the newborn upon the scale, listening to the first cries of life for his child, and his immortality.

Poor silly Papa. The day I was born, he felt like a god. He'd always thought he was sterile. Turns out he was probably right....

A wild-eyed man beats a large colorful mushroom with a pair of wooden sticks. Light streams from the mushroom where the sticks have touched it.

Syd, my drummer. All my stories worth telling are about him. He would feed me interesting things and lead me into other worlds. At the time I just figured they were really good hallucinations....

In a ring of standing stones on a low hill under the stars, two women fence with blades of fire and storm. The women are identical.

"As long as you live in myhouse, you'll live by myrules."

"Right, then. Where's my suitcase?"

A couple stands in a convenience store, regarding a terrified old man behind the counter. The young man shrugs in his long red leather coat, holding his shotgun, ready but casual. The woman, raven-haired, bespectacled and cool, hitches up her skirt to draw a fountain pen from her garter.

Me, with one of my bodyguards, on tour. The small-town stops were always such fun. The ones who dug the music treated us like saviors, and we would jam until morning, weaving thought and experience into song. Everyone else... well, they were at least fun to startle....
